My yard is currently undergoing a renovation, so I didn't want to spend a lot of time dressing today. I went for casual and comfortable looking... And hey, high heeled boots are TOTALLY casual and comfortable in the digital world.

It's Coming...

I wanted to put together an outfit that captured (for me, at least) that end of summer, transitioning into autumn, feeling. Autumn is my very favorite time of year. I love everything about it. The unrelenting heat and humidity of the summer in the Midwest finally breaks, and everything cools down to a slightly more bearable temperature, before finally slipping into chilly. The air is crisp, the afternoon light softens, and the trees come alive with different colors.

I just love it all. And I really love fall colors. It helps that they look good on me in RL, I imagine. Autumn collections have always been my favorite collections, because the colors are made for me.

It's still a little early to be dressing for autumn here in Ohio. The heat is still going strong today, (91° F as I write this!) we're lacking rain and the sun is beating down. But in SL, I can start making that change, and enjoy as much autumn as I like. Next week I'll begin turning our yard into an autumn wonderland, but in the meantime, I'll go shopping for new clothes that represent the cooler weather.

I wanted to capture autumn in this picture, not so much with the colors, but with the light. It might just be me, but autumn light always feels different to me. It casts shadows and highlights and I just know it when I feel it. And this felt like it to me.

I got this little shanty from the Homestuff hunt. I have so much from there that I haven't even gotten a third of the way through all the loot, but this is already one of my favorites. It has some cute poses in it as well, though I'm not actually using one in the picture.

I picked up these pants, and I LOVE the texture on them, but the alpha was kind of weird. I had to wear size medium because of it, when I'm normally an extra small in pants.

Money is Always an Object

I got kind of bored last night, so I decided to get on my seldom used alt and update her a little. Poor thing hasn't had new clothes in over a year. I gave her 500L, and sent her skinny butt down to The Dressing Rooms and Collabor88. I think she looks pretty good for not a whole lot of money. I wanted to get her a new skin, but none of the ones that had demos looked very good on her, and I have a strict policy of not buying without trying when it comes to skins.

I was actually pretty impressed with how many skins were offered, between both dressing rooms, but I was a little incredulous that of those skins, I could only find two with demos. I always wonder what the line of thinking is on that. Is it because the skins are offered so cheap that the creators think people will go ahead and buy them? And I'm sure some people will. But if you have a limited amount of money to work with (like I did last night) you don't want to waste even a small bit of that money on something that may not really work for you. And some people are really bad at editing their shapes to fit skins, or even just may not want to. Or, in my case, are just too lazy to do it, even though their alt possesses alien-like qualities and no ass to speak of. Though I did mod her lips a little, because they were looking a little too unrealistic.


Erin needs to own that dress. I owned the shoes already, which helped, and I almost had enough money to buy another outfit, but I was like 56L short. So I got Shelby some new eyes and lashes instead.

It's still really pretty though.

SL, You Saucy Vixen

I meant to post this yesterday, but Second Life and I got into a fight, so it didn't happen. Windlight settings confuse me. I refuse to take the blame for this and instead blame SL. Because clearly the problem can't lie with me.

Seriously though... I can't get an advanced sky editor to come up for the life of me. Did they get rid of it? Is it a setting I have screwed up? Am I stuck with the basic one that allows you to change your settings, but you can't fine tune them? It's really annoying, especially since even the SL wiki has the advanced one as the way to do it. I just don't know if it's my issue or theirs.

Anyway. This picture is really boring, but I was trying to do the whole windlight thing and this is just the best I could do.


I told you I was never taking off those boots. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I love Mon Tissu. (Does anyone else always want to add an "E" to the end of "Tissu?" Drives me crazy, that impulse.) Their style is pretty much my RL style. And their mesh just kicks ass.

Sims that don't allow rezzing are the bane of my blogger existence. It's so much more difficult to pose using the animation. Granted, it's my own fault, because I forget I'm not on a stand and go to move my camera, and instead move my avi. I'm not the brightest at times.

Don't you hate how when you try on a dress in a store in RL, you think it looks super cute, but then you get home and you realize that it just doesn't look that great on you? I hate that in SL, too. I tried on this dress in the booth at the Vintage Fair, decided I loved it and got it. I got home, put it on, and... it just doesn't look that good on me. It's still totally cute. Just not on me. Bummer. Maybe if I weren't such an Amazon... Oh well.

Don't Look Too Closely...

Learning photo editing is both fun and tedious! Much like learning in all walks of life, I suppose.

I tried to hit the Pink Ribbon Fair today. I only made it to one store before the lag got to me. Something that really frustrates me about fairs is that it seems like most everyone I see comes in fully dressed, with their prims and AO's all attached. And right at the landing point is a giant sign asking people to remove their stuff. I'm walking about bald and in a bikini and the chick next to me is in more prims than a store has. It's really irritating, and it contributes to the lag so much. And it's not like lag is entirely avoidable, but we CAN help it. Come on, people. Just bite the bullet and take one for the team!

Anyway! I took a crack at some intermediate editing today, with so/so results. Just need to keep at it.

Lazy Summer Days

Mesh has made me lazy. I realized it today, when trying to get dressed. I wanted to layer, and I wanted to wear mesh, so I had to combine the two. Which isn't unusual at all, but I've been just slapping on mesh and calling it good recently, so this was kind of a challenge for me.

It took me way longer than it should have to get dressed. And I cheated and the only mesh I wore was a sweater. Baby steps.

Go Team SL... Hmph.

Ohhhh SL is so remarkably frustrating sometimes. I spent half an hour this morning attempting to get a pose to work, but SL would NOT animate my hands. I don't understand why. I tried three different viewers, and nothing worked. I finally had to give up or I was going to lose my mind.

I really think it's kind of ridiculous that we're a decade into this, and they still can't fix the LITTLE stuff. Advances in technology, like mesh, are totally awesome, but you know... You also need to spend some time ironing out basic bugs. And the fact that they just recently have fixed the spread fingers thing? I mean, I'm thrilled that it's been fixed, but I think that having to put up with it for years first is a little ridiculous.

Anyway. I actually attempted to do this picture yesterday, and I had a whole Olympics rings thing going on. But I had perspective problems and resizing... And it was all just not working. So then today I tried to use a peace pose... See above for the results. So in the end, it's me and my jeans, and you know. Just pretend that I'm projecting feelings of world peace and stuff, instead of quiet simmering rage at SL.

I spent most of my time in SL today with it minimized while I messed around in Gimp. And I came out of it with virtually no more skills than I already had. This photo editing business is difficult stuff. And I just really don't like Gimp very much. I found Photoshop to be so much easier, back when I used it.

I know white backgrounds are kind of boring... But I can't help but love the cleanness of it. So pretty.

Yay Coffee

I hit some stores early this morning... It's not even 10:00 AM and I've already gotten most of the stuff planned for today done. Craziness.

I wandered to this sim this morning that I saw on someone's blog yesterday, and it's so pretty. I fell in love with the colors. Great light, too, I didn't even have to change my windlight settings, I just left it on the default. And I stumbled across this little cafe, which really just made me hungry, but also compelled me to take pictures. So after that, I went and ate breakfast, and now I'm ready for a nap.

Let me reiterate, it is not yet 10:00 AM and I'm ready for a nap. I just don't know what to think about myself sometimes.

I Miss Layers!

I know I've said it before... And I'll probably say it again, but my biggest problem with mesh (and I say this as an unabashed mesh addict) is that layering is so difficult. I really miss having the ability to pile one thing on top of another without having to worry about things sticking through. On the other hand, I don't miss having to edit prims to fit. I need a happy medium. Of course, if I had one, I'd probably find a way to tip the scales and be annoyed with something. It's hard being me.

You can't tell from this (stellar) picture, but I'm perched precariously on the edge of a cliff. My avatar is frozen in fear.

Dipping My Toe in the Waters...

Sooooooooo it's been a long time! I suck. For the three people who read this, my apologies! I really haven't done that much shopping lately. I was pretty busy for a while with some club stuff... But I can feel the itch coming back, and I'll need to scratch it! Repeatedly.

So I started with the hair fair a few days ago... I banged that out in about an hour, which I'm pretty proud of. I didn't look good wandering around bald and barely dressed, but I moved fast, which is more than I can say for the chicks walking around with more prims and huds than they sell on Marketplace.

This is one of the hairs (hairs always sounds grammatically incorrect to me. It bothers me.) I picked up, and I really like it. I actually only ended up buying four in total. Sometimes I wonder if I'm too picky.



So, a little note to creators, should any stumble across my blog. You want us to buy stuff from you, right? So you want to make it as easy as possible to access your store, whether that be finding it in world, or having your stuff on Marketplace.

So the logical thing to do would be to always include a landmark in things that you sell, right? So, I beg you, from a shopper... ALWAYS include a damn LM in your stuff. it sucks when I've managed to buy something from a store previously, and then can't find the store, and the creator didn't bother including a landmark. Help me give you money! That's all I'm asking!

Oops, It's Been a While

Layering with mesh is such a bitch. I honestly don't know how to do it successfully. I try... And it just never comes out very well. It's a real drawback to mesh for me, because while I really do love it, it's hard to combine and layer. I think the only thing you can really do is try to mix mesh and non-mesh, which I can do with limited success.

This outfit, for instance, I'm not crazy about. It's mostly mesh... but it really didn't work when I wasn't in a static pose. The shirt went right through the jacket, and it just generally looked ridiculous. So I lost the jacket... and I'm still not crazy about it, though I love all the pieces individually. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is that I'm not loving. Maybe the tank top just doesn't work with the pants? Hm.

We got a new house! It's pretty sweet. I change houses a lot in SL... trying to find the right one. It's a compulsion. But I really love this one! At least this month. It does have a kitchen, unfortunately. Kitchens in SL are my nemesis. Hm. I wonder what the plural of nemesis is. Is it nemesis's? That can't possibly be right. I'm turning to Google. Ahhhh nemeses. That makes much more sense. Anyway. Kitchens in SL drive me insane, because I don't even cook in RL, let alone my fake life. But it's hard to find a house WITHOUT a kitchen. So I deal.

Dining rooms are okay, even though they're kind of useless as well. But I took my picture in our dining room, because it's the only room that's pretty much done. I'm currently using the furniture that came with the house, because I like it, and I expect I'll keep using the dining room furniture for the long run. The living room... we'll see.



I had plans for this outfit. I was going to go walk the streets of Paris! Or maybe London! Go shopping... uncover a secret plot somewhere. It was all very Audrey Hepburn in that one movie where she's blind that I can't remember the name of. But, instead, I went out and got kind of tipsy and my day was all shot to hell. So I didn't leave the dining room. But I looked fabulous, anyway.

Blinded by the Light!

I think I'm slowly being blinded by exposing myself to all the light that is apparently in SL. I just had NO IDEA it was that BRIGHT all the time. Change your windlight settings, you say? Yes, that would be the obvious solution, but everything is so bright and pretty! I love it.

On the other hand, this picture might hurt your eyes. I tried to tone it down a little, but Gimp is a learning process. Yay new computer!

So I threw this outfit together... yesterday and I'm still wearing it.. don't judge me. I love these capris, they make me feel like I should be living in some awesome beach town, as opposed to being landlocked. With little cafes right on the water... Or bars. I'm not actually that picky. When I was in Mexico, there was this little bar right outside of our hotel, sitting right on the beach, totally out in the open, it was literally a tent with some tables and chairs. And the waiters were all pretty cute and would hit on me every time I was in there. Best bar ever.

I Heart Pink

How much do I love ColdLogic? So much. I wasn't sure about them at first, but I think they've really gotten better with time. I am in love with these capris. Capries? Spell check isn't helping me here. Anyway. I think they are super cute. I also really like this hair from Exile... You know, I never really cared for Exile's non-mesh hair, mostly because it just never looked very good on me, but I think this one is adorable. It was just a good day for purchases!



Also trying new mesh eyes... The jury is still out on them, though. They're well-made, I'm just not sure I'm ready to change eyes.



Now... I need a nap.

You Say Ice Cream, I Say Gelato

I've always wanted to visit Italy. I've seen the good movies... the cheesy ones, too. And it's all mixed together in my mind in this vision of sun dappled fields and wine soaked days. I suppose I could have both of those things here in Ohio, too, seeing as we're certainly not short on fields... Or wine, for that matter (though I caution everyone who passes through to always avoid the Ohio "wineries." Seriously. Don't buy local.) But our fields are usually packed full of corn, or soybeans, and while wine soaked days in Italy just mean vacation, they probably mean alcoholism here. Anyway, my point is that I have an idea of what Italy might be like, and though I'm sure the reality is different, I can't help but think that the reality will be just as good, better, in fact, than the idea I have in my mind.

So yesterday, I took a trip to Italy. I fell in love with this dress weeks ago, I've tried it on several times, and I've pondered over color choices, asked myself if I would wear it, and if I did, where would I wear it to? But I got it, in the sunny yellow, because summer is near. And I found myself on a street in a small Italian village, searching for the nearest glass of wine, and being checked out by handsome European men. It doesn't get any better than that, right?

Well, yes it does, because soon after, I was sitting in the cafe, having a glass of wine.



Who knows where I'll end up today?

I Always Dot My I's

I have kind of a love/hate relationship with lingerie in Second Life. On the one hand, some of it is just beautiful, and I enjoy beautiful things. On the other hand, it really can be a pain. The addition of multiple layers did help tip the scales a bit to the "love" side of things, but it didn't eliminate the hate portion entirely. For one thing, creators will, on occasion, make baffling layering choices, like having a garter belt only be wearable on the jacket layer. I don't understand this. If I want to wear a full set of lingerie, I might actually want to wear it under something, and I need my pants layer. Although I haven't tried wearing that under mesh, which might finally solve my problems, but I will still never understand why anyone would do that. Having it as an option, sure, but the only option? I don't get it.

(Also, on a side note, yesterday I learned the hard way that I need to wear panties at all times under mesh dresses. Live and learn, people.)

I also struggle to find strapless bras. Not a corset, which was always a layering nightmare, but an actual strapless bra and panties set. I'm telling you, they are the most difficult things to find on the grid. So when I got the update NC from Gawk! yesterday, with the Marketplace special for these little sets, I wasted absolutely no time in jumping on there and purchasing. First of all, they're adorable. I love polka dots. And lace. And all things ridiculous and girly. Second of all... Strapless! This really just served as a reminder that I will and always have loved Gawk.





That's my bedroom! It's very empty, but you can't tell from the pictures. Yay angles.

I suppose I should put some actual clothes on now.

Sunshine On My Shoulders Makes Me Happy

So after my "adventure" earlier... I was exhausted, and couldn't bring myself to go shopping anymore. I dug around in my closet and pulled out this little sundress I haven't worn yet, that I picked up from Celoe a couple of days ago. I could see how this dress could be a little tricky to wear for certain body types, but I think it looks okay on me... if I'm wrong, don't tell me, because I love it.

I didn't really dress the outfit up much, but sometimes simple is better! Besides, I'm refusing to leave the house, so who cares? Only one person is going to see me, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't care if I have earrings on.



Also? Picnic tables: Surprisingly comfortable for relaxing. I've found this to be true in real life as well.



I forgot my nails. Oh, the humiliation.

New York State of Mind...

I woke up this morning, feeling somewhat... inspired. Maybe it was the beautiful weather, or the fact that it's Friday, or maybe just the chemicals in my brain coming together in a nice, happy way.

So I decided to take a trip downtown! Called a cab, which was mysteriously driven by no one... bit creepy, but you know, it got me where I wanted to go, which is all that matters, right? (Also, avoiding small talk is never a bad thing, I'm so awkward!). He.. It? Dropped me off on a street corner, which made me wonder if they were trying to tell me something, but I shrugged it off and took a few steps... Closed my eyes... And let the sounds and smells of the city overwhelm me.



It took all my strength not to get back into the cab immediately after that mistake, but I powered on. I brought my camera, and was going to take so many pictures of my adventure! But some guy smacked into me after the first picture and I dropped my camera and it broke. So I went walking, determined to find a shop that sold cameras and I could get a replacement, but I was distracted by shoe stores, and by the time I was done with that, my mysterious cab had returned, ready to take me home. I don't know why it seemed so dead set on getting me out of there, but I was a little scared to argue with a vehicle that could drive itself. I wanted to live to see another day, you know?

And now I'm back home, exhausted from my adventure, but with more shoes. So I call it a success!

I Like Lemons

Sooooo that whole challenge thing? Aborted. Or failed, depending on how you look at it. I had a slight change in circumstances that FORCED ME to go shopping. Thank God. So! I hit Culture Shock, and spent two days shopping there, and I actually have one more section to get through still. As it was last year, it's packed full and I had a blast, wandering around bald and barefoot, hoping I didn't see anyone I know.

One thing I found that was really frustrating was that I couldn't find demos in a lot of the stores for their mesh items, and quite a few of them were the donation items. I don't really understand why any shop owner wouldn't have a demo out for any mesh clothing, or have it hidden so well that no amount of searching can locate it. I wouldn't think that would help sales at all, because I, personally, won't buy anything mesh without trying it on first. Even if it's standard sizing, I've had enough items that don't quite fit the way another standard sizing item fits that I'm not going to buy without a preview. It's just really frustrating.

But the event itself is great, and I appreciate the fact that they don't let people off their LP without reducing their scripts. I'm really impressed with the layout, it's easy to get around and not confusing, and since I tend to get lost everywhere I go, in both lives, that's kind of a big deal!

I'm trying to learn a little more about my photo editing program... and how to take pictures that I can work with a bit. So I actually took this picture myself, and I don't think it turned out too badly. I'm getting better! I picked up this jumpsuit at Ricielli's store in Culture Shock, and I think it's super cute, but I do wish it was lined on the inside. Either way, it's adorable.

A Change is Gonna Come...

I have a challenge for myself. It's a sad challenge, but one nonetheless. I have to get through the rest of the week without buying anything. This is made especially difficult because Culture Shock is going on right now, but if I can make it through the week, it'll be worth it anyway, because the lag there will be much better next week.

So anyway, I have to try and dress without actually purchasing anything... I didn't realize how often I did this until today, when I was trying to find shoes for this outfit. I'm not really crazy about these shoes with it, but... my flip-flops don't work with these jeans (which I love) and I had to work with what I already had. This also means I may have to forgo some mesh this week! Annoying, but doable.

In better news, I got someone to take pictures for me! Her name is Daniela Karsin, and she is adorable and talented and all that good stuff. Someday maybe I'll have a graphics card that enables me to be able to take pictures that don't have jagged edges, but... today is not that day.

And I know the plain backgrounds are boring... I'm working on it.



Okay... working on being more specific in my credits. I must learn patience!

A Storm is Brewing!

I am frustrated with all blogs right now. It's like they're trying to thwart me and keep me from my blogging destiny! And I don't understand it, because everyone knows how delightful I am.

I attempted to work on my layout earlier... it didn't go very well. I need to work on it again. I think I did figure out the problem with the smooshed up stuff, so at least I have that figured out! Maybe I'll just stay here after all.

It's been storming like crazy here... makes me want to get out the rain thingy I have in SL. It could rain in my bedroom, like in the winter when it snowed in there! It's a surprisingly cozy visual, really. You wouldn't think it would be, but you'd be wrong! Also, my living room looks like a slightly off set from Mad Men. It's pretty awesome. I should blog it at some point.

What a Mesh!

See what I did there? Heh. So, I saw this totally adorable mesh dress on a blog... well, many blogs, actually, and I went to the store and I really liked most of the dresses in their new collection. So I grabbed the demos, ran home and tried them on and the fit was... a little off, but nothing so bad that I didn't think I could fix it easily. So I bought three dresses.

I was wrong. Now, I don't understand why they don't use standard sizing, because most places do, and at this point, it's really the norm. The dresses are really cute, but if I could go back, I wouldn't buy them. I suppose it's my own fault for assuming I could easily fix it. That said, I don't even understand their sizing. The small size is too small, but the extra small isn't. How does that make ANY sense. Anyway. I had to mod my shape pretty severely to wear the dress pictured below, and it's still not perfect, I just gave up.

This Post Brought to You by the 80's

I had to have my picture taken for the club, and the theme was 80's, so I threw this together. And I have no idea where I got this dress, I've had it for ages. Today though, I did an experiment. First, I took a picture of myself with my graphics set on "low," like I usually do. Then I upped them to "Mid," (my computer gave a protesting cough) and snapped one. And then, despite my poor computer's wheezing, I upped them to "High," and then to "Ultra." What I noticed was that there was barely a difference between low and mid, there was a tremendous different between mid and high, and again, not much of a difference between high and ultra. I could barely move, or even get a picture taken though, with it on high, so I'm not sure I'll be doing it often. My poor computer. I do wish my graphics care was even a tiny bit better, so the edges wouldn't be so rough. But, such is life. Hit the pose fair today and got a few things! I barely touched on it though, so I'm sure I'll go back before it's over. What I'm Wearing: Dress: SD Wears (God bless edit object.) And the Gun Goes...

...Bang, bang, bang. I pulled the trigger. Got a new skin, and I look about 20. Hey, I'm not complaining. I think I really like it, but time will tell. And today I went shopping and spent... a lot. Way more than I should have. And didn't really get that much. I really love Celoe's stuff, but personally, I think they're a little pricey. 450L for a pair of pants is a bit high, in my humble opinion. That said, I'm not going to stop shopping there, because the quality is great, and the styles are super cute.

Mesh! I love mesh. I do not love mesh sizing. My top is medium (and this is after I made my boobs smaller, because they wouldn't fit and large was WAY too big) and my bottom is XS. What kind of craziness is that? Look at my ass! There's no way it's an XS! So weird. Anyway, behold my mostly mesh outfit, including hair.



And yes, the photo is much better than usual because I didn't take it, a friend did. He did a nice job!

Fly Me to the Moon!

I've been watching a lot of "Mad Men" lately, and I'm feeling somewhat vintagey. I know that's not a word. I don't care. Anyway, the dress is a littttttttle shorter than I really think the jacket calls for, but hey, I've got good legs, I can pull it off.

I snapped the picture on the Mayfair sim, home to Celoe and Mon Tissue, which is seriously the most gorgeous shopping sim I think I've been to. But holy lag and crash issues. I really like the stores, but I crashed three times, and just rezzing takes a while, since the whole sim is mesh.



So, League released a new skin, and I actually got the demo for it, because this is what I do. I get the demos for skins, and then I try them, and then I delete them, because I love my skin and haven't ever been able to find one that even remotely compares. I seriously haven't changed skins in about a year and a half. And I've had the same shape (with a few tiny tweaks) since about my third day in SL. Clearly, I reject change.

But. I love this skin from League. I mean, I sat and stared at myself for about half an hour. And then I snapped a picture of it, and a picture of my regular one, and compared them side by side. And then I went back and forth. I really like it, but do I like it as much? I'm so torn. I really need to just bite the bullet and make a decision, but it's so hard! D:

I've had this dress for... Gosh, forever, and I've never worn it, because I never really liked it that much. I threw it on today, thinking that I may as well wear it, because I was planning on paying rent and running to get some new lashes, and not much else, so it didn't matter. And I ended up putting the whole thing together and I really like it, dress and all. Accessories are helpful!

So I added a second pair of lashes on top of my original lashes... and I'm undecided. I like how much fuller they are, but I'm worried it's too much. Is it too dark? I ask that question as though more than one person reads my blog. I meant to take a closeup and forgot, so that's that.
